Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, said in a tweet early Monday morning that he "had just deleted" his Twitter account, but it was not clear whether it was a joke or no. The account still seemed active.

Musk has also changed its user title to "Daddy DotCom". Sunday was Father's Day in the United States

Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The billionaire is only a few months away from an agreement with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) regarding its use of Twitter. The SEC said that in February, Musk broke the terms of the November sanction, following his famous "secured financing" tweet about the privatization of his car company.

Musk's SEC deal requires a lawyer to approve social media posts that may include important Tesla information. Under the agreement, Musk agreed not to tweet about Tesla, its finances, production figures and other specific information without first obtaining the approval of his lawyer. A federal judge approved the settlement in May.
