Elon Musk: Tesla to release new user interface with ‘car mind’ view for cars with FSD computers

Elon Musk has confirmed that Tesla will release a new user interface with its upcoming FSD v9 Beta software update.

The updated UI will have something the CEO has called the “car mind” view.

Tesla is expected to release a broader UI update in its vehicles for some time now.

It’s often called its v11 software update, and it’s expected to use some of the new designs seen in the new updated Model S user interface.

The update has also been mated to Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) Beta v9 software update as it is supposed to coincide with the larger version of the beta update.

In Tesla’s current FSD beta update, which is only used by a few thousand owners in the Early Access program, mostly Tesla employees, the driving visualizations look more like a debug mode than something else.

The automaker is expected to update these visualizations with a sharper appearance for the larger version of the FSD beta.

Now CEO Elon Musk confirms that a new UI is coming with the update and that it will feature a ‘spirit of the car’ view:

“Yes, an updated user interface coming with the scale version of FSD. All cars equipped with an FSD computer will have a new “car spirit” view. All 3 / Y can be upgraded to have FSD computer.

While not entirely clear, the “spirit of the car” view is likely a reference to the new driving visualizations, which show how the car sees its surroundings.

Tesla’s driving visualizations have often been called the “trusted builder” for autopilot, and now FSD, because they let you know what Tesla’s computer vision system can see.

Certain objects often jump in these visualizations, which Musk says could be fixed with the new Tesla Vision computer vision update.

Now, as to when the update arrives, the larger version of FSD Beta has been linked with the FSD Beta v9 update, which has been delayed several times.

More recently, Musk said it really should happen overnight.

The CEO also says that the new driving visualizations will affect not only vehicles equipped with the FSD package, but also any vehicle equipped with the FSD computer (HW3), which corresponds to every vehicle that Tesla has produced since April 2019.
