Elon Musk teases Tesla unveiling an updated version of the Cybertruck next quarter as the automaker focuses on putting the electric pickup into production.
Tesla unveiled the Cybertruck in November 2019, but the vehicle is not expected to go into production until late 2021.
In the last year since the unveiling and leading to the start of production, Tesla has modified the electric pickup truck.
Unlike most automakers who unveil concept vehicles and later production versions that are hugely toned down, Tesla tends to market production vehicles that look extremely similar to their original concepts.
However, the automaker is still making improvements and a few changes on the production road and the Cybertruck is no exception.
CEO Elon Musk previously spoke about Tesla’s update to the Cybertruck’s adaptive air suspension. They also talked about making the truck smaller, but Musk scrapped that plan after a design review in May 2020.
While the automaker has ditched plans for a smaller Cybertruck for now, some design and dimensional changes are expected.
The updated version of the Cybertruck was supposed to be unveiled late last year, but it was delayed.
Now Musk says Cybertruck’s update will “probably” arrive next quarter:
The CEO also added that the focus is now on production of the electric van at Gigafactory Texas, which is still under construction.
Earlier this year, Musk warned Tesla had to be “ lucky ” that the electric pickup wasn’t delayed and didn’t go into production until late 2021.
The update could also unveil some previously announced features of Cybertruck that have yet to be demonstrated, such as the solar roof for the electric van bed.
The automaker could also unveil updated specs for the Cybertruck after unveiling plans for its internal battery last year.
Tesla has said it plans to launch both high-end versions of the Cybertruck at the end of 2021.
These two electric trucks will have between 300 and 500 miles of range and will be equipped with two and three engine powertrains and will start at $ 49,000.
A cheaper and cheaper version of the Tesla Cybertruck will be available later.
