Emirates has decided to send its new Airbus A380 aircraft with all the new cabins to London-Heathrow. From January 4, the last Airbus A380 to enter the Dubai-based carrier’s fleet will operate a daily round-trip flight between the two major cities.
Emirates sends new A380 to London
From January 4, EK003 / 004 will be operated by the newest Airbus A380 to enter the Emirates fleet. The flight departs Dubai daily at 2:30 p.m. local time and arrives at London-Heathrow at 6:20 p.m. local time. The return flight is a red-eyed night, leaving London-Heathrow at 8:20 p.m. local time and reaching Dubai the next morning at 7:20 a.m.
There are currently five daily flights to London-Heathrow from Dubai on Emirates. Of these, four are operated with an Airbus A380. One of them will feature a premium economy cabin.
The new Airbus A380
Emirates has currently received an Airbus A380 with a brand new Premium Economy cabin. The 56-seater cabin is fitted in a 2-4-2 configuration. Each seat offers up to 40 inches in height and 19.5 inches in width. The recline of each seat is eight inches.
Along with the new Premium Economy cabin, Emirates has also updated the rest of its cabins. In first class, the airline offers 14 suites that are slightly larger and have taller doors for more privacy and comfort. The onboard bathroom with shower has also received a refreshed design and modern amenities.
In business class, the 76 seats remained in the same style and configuration. However, it received a design update with a champagne-colored leather and wood finish, which is similar to what the airline is offering on its new Boeing 777s.
Finally, in economy, the 338 seats received a new ergonomic design with full leather headrests and flexible side panels. This seat is a “step forward”, according to Emirates, compared to its economy seats in Boeing 777.
Premium Economy is not yet for sale
Emirates has only one Airbus A380 in premium economy class. Until more of its jets receive the new cabin, Emirates will only offer these seats as one-time upgrades to its customers on a discretionary basis.
The airline will not sell premium economy class tickets until it can guarantee that its customers will be able to travel in premium economy class. A last-minute plane swap could mean Emirates customers are no longer flying in a premium economy class plane, which can lead to issues with where to place those passengers on the new plane. All other cabins will be available for reservation.
