Alabama was the No. 1 seed of the NIT after being thrown out of the NCAA tournament.
The Crimson Tide then drew the eighth seed, Norfolk State, for its first-round match, which was held in Tuscaloosa. However, this did not happen as planned for the tide.
After going into overtime, Norfolk State eventually pulled away from the tide and won by a score of 80 to 79.
Sophomore G Herbert Jones led the way with 18 points for the tide. Alex Reese scored 17 points and seven rebounds on the bench.
Derrik Jamerson Jr. led all scorers, scoring 25 points for the state of Norfolk. He also grabbed seven boards in an incredible bench effort.
Tide's season is over and fans have been frustrated by coach Avery Johnson for a few years now. After Wednesday's disappointing efforts, it could spell the end of an era in Tuscaloosa.
Johnson is on the ice and this loss will certainly not help. It does not help either that Johnson has stated that he will build for the future with this game, and that he began to play senior Donta Hall and Riley Norris heavily.
Overall, it was an unpleasant loss for the tide and we will see what happens next. It will be a dead season in Alabama.
