Enoch Boakye’s decision is unfortunately justified

After an already horrific season, Michigan state basketball took another hit today after Enoch Boakye announced he would be stepping down.

Enoch Boakye told SI.com he believes he won’t be able to make an immediate impact in East Lansing. “By doing a lot of research with my team and watching a lot of games, it looks like a lot of guys will stick around. I want to go to a place where I have the opportunity to make an impact right away. This is my number one goal. “

Boakye’s reasoning for his release makes sense. This team has had a remarkably poor season. He believes a lot of the players currently on the roster will still be around when he gets to East Lansing, due to how poorly they played. To be honest with you, I don’t blame him. I fully understand his reasoning.

It’s a blow to Tom Izzo and this program. Boakye has the potential to be one of the best great men in college basketball. Not having him as a Spartan will be difficult.

On the bright side, Izzo will (hopefully) have the country’s No.1 rookie at his disposal at Emoni Bates. Bates is one of the most sought-after recruits in recent history. We’ll never know what Bates and Boakye’s one-two-punch will look like, but I can only imagine how powerful it would have been.

Schools that have already contacted Boakye since its announcement include Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Arizona State, Arizona, USC, Duke, Kentucky, Washington State and Gonzaga, according to the old Michigan State commitment.
