Ethel G. “Thelma” McGinnis, 87, of Spring Mills, died Monday. Born in Duncansville, daughter of the late Ward and Martha “Stupid” Brubaker.

On September 2, 1955, in Anchorage, Alabama, Thelma married Allan C. McGinnis who predeceased her in 2002.

Thelma graduated in 1953 from Hollidaysburg High School. She retired from C-Cor Electronics after

20 years of service and during part of that time she held two full-time jobs, always doing whatever was necessary to help support her family. She was a selfless and generous soul, loved and adored by all who met her.

Thelma was Lutheran and a former member of the Gregg Township Ladies’ Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing, gardening vegetables and flowers, and looking after her house. In her youth, Thelma and Allan enjoyed camping and traveling across the country in a station wagon with six children in tow. Oh the adventures they’ve had. She loved to cook and bake for her family who got together every Sunday for dinner. She was best known for her apple pie.

Three daughters survive: Lee Anne Ernst (Daniel) of O’Fallon, Ill., Nancy Reffner (Jerry) of Altoona and Norma McGinnis of Pleasant Gap; three sons, Scott A. McGinnis of Coburn, Michael J. McGinnis (Donna) of Marsh Creek and Vincent J. McGinnis (Mary) of Clearfield. Also survived 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Thelma is the last of her family to have been predeceased by five sisters; four brothers; one great-grandson, Devon; and a daughter-in-law, Margaret.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until noon funeral service on Saturday August 28, 2021, at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home in Millheim with Donna Reffner as officiant. Thelma will be buried in Fairview Cemetery West in Millheim.
