The newly completed industrial zone is the pilot free trade area of Djibouti. It will provide comprehensive solutions for businesses operating in the service, trade and manufacturing sectors and is expected to attract businesses from Africa and around the world.

The free trade area will benefit the whole continent because, under the auspices of the African Union, 49 African countries – including Djibouti – have recently signed the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), a trade agreement aimed at creating a single market for African countries.
Rwanda and Djibouti have strong bilateral ties in a number of key areas including: air transport, trade and investment, and ICT. The two countries also join forces to advance regional integration.
In 2013, Djibouti offered Rwanda a 20-hectare plot of land in the port of Djibouti, and the latter was in reciprocity by offering a plot in the Kigali Special Economic Zone.
