Taoiseach Leo Varadkar rejected criticism of the draft law on judicial appointments by the Council of Europe, insisting that it will be pbaded before politicians take their summer vacation.
A report of the Group of States against Corruption (GRECO) warned that the proposed new system for the appointment of judges could be open to "undue influence" on the part of political actors. He criticizes the fact that a new nominating commission will have a "strong secular representation", leaving the judges in the minority.
