ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia – Ethiopian media reports that the head of construction of the controversial construction dam on the Nile River has been found dead on Thursday morning in the center of the capital. [19659005] ETV reported that engineer Semegnew Bekele was found dead inside his car on Meskel Square in Addis Ababa. An AP reporter saw a Toyota Landcruiser surrounded by police officers trying to disperse a crowd of the scene.
Semegnew is credited for managing the cause of death. The construction of hydroelectric dams in Ethiopia.
He had downplayed Egypt's fear that the Great Ethiopian Renaissance Dam would reduce Egypt's share in the Nile's water. Ethiopia maintains that the dam is necessary for development, noting that 60 million citizens do not have access to electricity.
The Nile Dam is now over 63% complete. When completed, it will produce approximately 6,400 megawatts, more than double the current production of 4,000 megawatts of Ethiopia
