Ethiopia: Government to inject $ 1.2 billion into housing in Addis Ababa

(Agence Ecofin) – The Ethiopian government plans to build 16,173 residential homes in Addis Ababa for a total cost of $ 1.2 billion, The Reporter announced last week.

The project, led by the Federal Housing Corporation (FHC), will be financed by grants, loans and the national budget. " The planned houses include villas and various buildings from 9 to 21 floors," said Girhum Birhanu, deputy director of FHC.

About 50% of the homes planned will be dedicated to senior officials and civil servants while the rest should be used as a rental house for business services. Authorities said the villas should be commissioned within 12 to 18 months, while apartments should be ready in less than 36 months.

Note that the project requires approximately 26 ha of land, including land owned by the state. to be provided by the City Council of Addis Ababa.
