ADDIS ABABA – The Municipal Administration of Addis Ababa said that one million young people would participate in the voluntary summer program.

The Youth and Sports Office of the City Administration, Tizazu Aklilu, Director of Youth Mobilization, said that the number of volunteers is increasing dramatically in the city through community mobilization.

Volunteering allows citizens to invest their knowledge, time and energy to help their society. He added that in addition to helping others, the program allowed them to use their different skills while avoiding wasting their summer time on unnecessary issues.

The director explained that this year's volunteer work was initiated by a committee. not only support and monitor the activities of volunteer services, but also mobilize participants.

According to Tizazu, summer volunteer activities without borders will be conducted at the end of this year's voluntary summer program, where two hundred young people will travel to The South Nation, nationalities and the state.

This type of voluntary work brings other benefits, he explained. "This allows volunteers to learn about the culture and living conditions of communities living outside Addis Ababa, by participating in blood drives, environmental clean-ups and humanitarian activities"

Recently, in addition to the summer volunteer service, winter volunteer work was provided by various young people, especially during the holidays

In collaboration with the City Youth Federations, the Bureau plans to mobilize more than one million young people in various voluntary service activities, worth more than sixty million Birr.

According to the plan, ninety young people will participate in service activities of humanity. These activities will include the collection of used clothing and educational materials. It is expected that twelve thousand people will benefit from second-hand clothes, while a hundred thousand young people will participate in tutorship education.

Similarly, while six thousand young people will participate in basic computer training, 127 thousand would be engaged in mobilization activities against HIV and AIDS. Some 5,000 would also be involved in road safety

In addition, training activities on HIV and AIDS and voluntary blood tests will be conducted.

The country has a youth development program that encourages youth participation. volunteering and other public issues. According to him, this package improves the motivation of young people in public and social issues, and allows them to contribute their share.
