The African Union Election Observation Mission (AUEOM), which is in the country ahead of Monday's elections, called on all political parties and candidates to use appropriate legal frameworks to settle electoral disputes. The media in Harare today, AUEOM's chief of mission, Haile Mariam Desalegne who is also the former prime minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, have urged political parties to abide by the electoral laws as well as the constitution when they want the Electoral Management Board, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).
"With regard to the issues raised by the opposition, I think it is important that all parties in this election allow the appropriate legal frameworks and processes. their grievances are dealt with.
"Our job is therefore to see if and how these processes are followed so that at the end of the elections we can present our report and we encourage all parties to follow this electoral process" said Mr. Desalegne.
His feelings come as a result of the MDC Alliance's ongoing calls for the ZEC to establish a level playing field, 5 days before the elections.
The Alliance has already raised red flags on the unfair coverage of the national broadcaster and the public media that seems to favor the party at the expense of other candidates.
However, Chamisa said at a press conference in Harare today that he did not boycott the elections and go ahead with or without the reforms because resigning would mean to drop his followers.
Meanwhile, the Commonwealth Observation Mission led by former Ghana President John Dramani Mahama has raised the hopes of opposition parties. demanded a level playing field before the July 30 harmonized elections, stating that no demand is unreasonable as long as it is consistent with the country's legal framework.
