In a really weird move, LinkedIn adds voice messages to the professional network platform
The voice recording feature, which will be deployed in the coming weeks for all users, is available via iOS or Android app. Users can receive messages on mobile and on the LinkedIn website. Voice messages can last up to one minute.
Although LinkedIn has a proven track record as a powerful professional networking tool, especially for recruiters and HR professionals, LinkedIn can also be considered a second inbox. Voice messages could be a good break in text, but they could also add new importance to all incoming messages that users receive on the platform.
So why did LinkedIn add voicemail?

The first reason is convenience – LinkedIn thinks it's easier to send voice messages on the go than to type them. The second reason is that the asynchronous nature of LinkedIn, compared to phone calls and voice messages, is easier for recipients of voice messages. And finally, the company believes that users can better express themselves by voice.
While all of this may be true, I am not sure that voice messages are consistent with LinkedIn's overall goal. LinkedIn is mainly used to communicate with people you do not already know, in a professional setting. It is relatively rare to call someone you do not know at all to discuss a job or potential recruitment, while sending someone a email to this person is quite acceptable.
The use of the function seems quite easy. Just press and hold the microphone icon to record your message, then release the icon to send. To cancel, slide your finger from the microphone icon before releasing it.
LinkedIn, which was purchased by Microsoft in 2016, now has 562 million users.
