UNITED NATIONS, July 12 (Xinhua) ) – UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres on Thursday called for a political settlement of the Syrian crisis, stating that there was no military solution.
"The UN thinks there is no military solution," he told reporters. He said the world body is committed to finding a political solution in accordance with Security Council Resolution 2254, which provides a road map for a political settlement, he said.
Guterres called for the formation of a constitutional committee by the Syrian government and rebel groups earlier this year in Sochi, Russia, as an important tool for a future political solution.
