In late 2017, Google launched the Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL, a pair of phones that were immediately established as two of the best phones you could buy. Earlier this year, OnePlus responded with the OnePlus 6, which has also been very well received ever since.
Here, we're going to put the biggest (and most expensive) Google phones against the new suitor to see how they compare with each other in design, specifications, features and more – if you're thinking of To buy one, this guide should prove useful
OnePlus 6 vs Google Pixel 2 XL: Specifications
The Google Pixel 2 XL arrived in 2017, and like many phones from last year, is powered by a chipset Snapdragon 835 CPU. The OnePlus 6 was launched in 2018 and was updated in 2018 – the Snapdragon 845. The new chip is faster, but not so much.
Other than that, you can get 6GB or 8GB of RAM with the OnePlus 6, as well as 64GB, 128GB or 256GB of internal storage (there is no memory card slot for the # 6 39; expansion). With the Pixel 2 XL, you only have 4 GB of RAM, plus 64 GB or 128 GB of storage. Again, there is no slot to extend the available room.
On paper, the specifications of the OnePlus 6 represent a significant advance over the specifications of the Google Pixel 2 XL – perhaps expected, given the seven months the respective phones being announced. The Google Pixel 2 XL is not outdone, and will work very well, but the OnePlus 6 still has more punch behind him.
As for cameras, the double-sided 16MP + 20MP camera on the OnePlus 6 is against the 12.2MP single-lens snapper on the Pixel 2 XL. Given the quality of the Pixel camera and Google's image processing software, we will say that the Pixel 2 XL is probably right in front in this department.
OnePlus 6 vs. Google Pixel 2 XL: Features
know that the OnePlus 6 retains the traditional 3.5mm audio jack, while the Google Pixel 2 XL makes disappear with it, and pbad only to the USB-C (you have however a USB-C-to-3.5mm adapter in the box).
Then there is wireless charging – none of these phones integrate it, so you need the OnePlus 6 and the Google Pixel 2 XL wired if you want to recharge them. The OnePlus model is equipped with the famous OnePlus fast charging mode, so it is probably best to quickly adjust the volume of your phone.
With an IP67 rating, the Google Pixel 2 XL matches the waterproof and dustproof comparison. OnePlus has not given a note to his phone, so any type of dunking is likely to ruin it. This may not be a dealbreaker, but something else to keep in mind if you are trying to choose between these two handsets.
The Pixel 2 XL features the stock version of Android – clean, fast, secure, regularly updated – with Pixel extras added by Google. The OnePlus 6 features the OxygenOS version of Android made by OnePlus, which is actually very well done: although maybe not updated as fast as Android on Pixel phones.
OnePlus 6 vs. Google Pixel 2 XL: verdict
Trying to put these two phones one-on-one may be a bit unfair on Google because its phone is older from half a year as the OnePlus 6, and it shows. Google will have the chance to come back later this year with Google Pixel 3 and Google Pixel 3 XL
With this caveat, the OnePlus 6 is better in almost every department – in the raw specifications, in the # 39; appearance and usability of the device, and in the different configuration options you can get. It's really one of the best phones of 2018 and its price is very competitive too.
So, why would you still have the Pixel 2 XL? If you want Google's fastest updates, perhaps, or if you want the best photos possible, Pixels are still at the top of the pack when it comes to mobile photography. With a replacement around the corner, you might be able to get a decent deal on a Pixel 2 XL now, although the OnePlus 6 will probably still offer better value.
Overall, these are two fantastic phones, both definitely up there as the best of the last 12 months. The OnePlus 6 really benefits from being the newest model, and it is likely to be a better bet for most buyers, with the exception of Google Loyalists.
