That would be surprising, given that Wear OS is Google's mobile platform, and that Samsung and Google have not always had the most harmonious relationships. Until now, Samsung seems to have been quite happy using the Gear brand material with Tizen, the company that many speculated was a measure of insurance against Google's dominance.
On the one hand, Google could have used some of its influence with Samsung will use Wear OS in the new portable Tizen and ditch. On the other hand, Samsung may want to sell its watches by slapping a brand name that everyone already knows. As many have speculated, however, Wear OS needs Samsung far more than Samsung needs the OS Wear.
Samsung plans an event in August for the Galaxy Note 9, but it's unlikely we'll hear about Gear S4 / Galaxy, and may have to wait for the IFA 2018 convention in September before the company unveils its plans for the next device.
