The presidents of Somalia and Eritrea signed Monday an agreement to establish diplomatic relations after more than a decade of animosity, in the latest accelerated rapprochement of the Horn of the Dead. Africa

Mohamed's three-day visit to Asmara coincides with an extraordinary peace process between Eritrea and Ethiopia, part of the vertiginous change in a region beset by war, proxy conflicts, isolation and iron domination.
Somalia and Eritrea separated more than a decade ago from the war against Ethiopia
Eritrea has long denied this, but it has been sanctioned by the ctions of the UN on its alleged support for Al Shabaab in 2009.
"Eritrea strongly supports the polity, independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Somalia, and the efforts of the people and government of Somalia to restore the country's rightful place and realize the noble aspirations of its people, "read the statement
. On the website of the Ministry of Information of Eritrea, the two countries "will strive to forge political, economic, social, cultural and defense and intimate security cooperation."
They will work in unison for regional peace and stability and economic integration.
