everything we know up to now

In short

  • Cersei is back and is now the main villain with the king of the night gone
  • Ghost and Rhaegal both appear in the trailer, which means that they have survived

The dust (and the remaining White Walker iced debris) settled on the Battle of Winterfell and our heart rate was almost back to normal.

After Arya Stark hit the Night King with a fantastic ambidextrous dagger, we are now officially halfway Game of thrones'Eighth and last season (welp), and the attention goes to a certain Cersei Lannister.

HBO has released the trailer for episode 4, and it does not seem like the bad guys will rest. Death being officially treated, the fight for the iron throne is again at the center of the concerns. There remains a war to be waged.

Let's describe the trailer step by step to see what we can expect from the episode of next week …

The day after the battle

A very smoky after-fight in Winterfell

The first shot takes us to Winterfell the day after the battle. The trench continues to burn (possibly with the bodies of fallen soldiers, judging by the amount of smoke?) Under the gaze of the remaining soldiers alive. There are not many of them.

Cersei watches over his troops

We then saw Cersei and Euron watching his soldiers gather at King's Landing. The gold armor suggests that these are probably the key selling words of the Golden Company. Another big battle is imminent …

Game of Thrones season 8, episode 3: everything you may have missed

If you did not notice it, Winterfell was beaten to death in 'The Long Night'. The reconstruction effort begins immediately and we see men carrying large wooden trunks through the castle.

We also see Sansa, Arya and Jon, all of whom look dark, knowing that they have just won the biggest fight of their lives. They probably just want to rest, jheeze.

"We won the Great War, now we will win the last war"

The first words we hear belong to Daenerys, who clearly does not waste time to pursue the iron throne. "We won the Great War," she says as Missandei and Varys rub shoulders "now, we're going to win the last war." We then cut Dany up for a drink in a room resembling northerners, and they applauded it. Is this a sign that the North has accepted Daenerys as queen? And what does that mean for Jon's request?

Arya and Gendry are on

Go get it, Arya

Arya and Gendry was not a punctual thing! At least, we suppose it's Gendry, it's hard to tell in the light, but she really kisses someone in this caravan. It can not be anybody else, is not it?

After all that she has done, Arya deserves the blame she wants, so I am firmly behind this ship. Let's hope he sails happily forever.

The ghost lives!

Who died in Game of Thrones? Every Death of Season 8, Episode 3, Filed by the Way They were Heartbreaking

The most exciting moment of the trailer! Blink and you'll miss him, but this one-second blow from a handful of our favorites outside the castle confirms that Jon Snow's giant werewolf survived the Battle of Winterfell, although he's part of the initial charge that killed the Dothraki.

You can almost see him standing near Sam. Thank God, I really thought he was a goner.

Rhaegal lives!

Fans also feared for Rhaegal, after the smallest of Dany's remaining dragons suffered a lot of damage in a battle with the Viserion Undead, then was not seen again. It appears however alive (except for a pretty hole massive in its wing) in some scenes of this trailer.

Daenerys will need Drogon and Rhaegal at full strength in the war against Cersei, as the vast majority of his army has been annihilated.

Does Euron propose to Cersei?

We cut at Euron holding Cersei by the hand and kneeling. Now, he's likely to ask him something or display one of his typically dramatic twists, but there's a possibility it's a proposal. That's what Euron wants, after all.

Sansa looks worried

What does Sansa think of Daenerys after the war? Expect their relationship to be explored further in episode 4. We now see her looking, her face covered with stone, while Drogon and Rhaegal were flying above Winterfell.

Much less than Dany had brought by the narrow sea (RIP, Dothraki, essentially all unspotted), but the dragon queen still has an army. It is almost certainly smaller than that of Cersei, but it is clearly not considered to take a break to recover.

"We are going to rip off the root and stem"

The final words of the trailer are also from Daenerys. "We're going to rip off the root and stem," she says, facing a very confident photo of Cersei and Euron. It's been really good for Cersei so far, is not it? But Dany is determined to erase it forever.

The big question is whether Jaime will go back to her now that the dead have been treated, or whether he is on the side of the treats until the end? A very long week until we discover it …
