8 hours UPDATE AUG. 20: Due to the excessive heat warning, Clark County has opened several additional cooling stations in the Las Vegas area.
An excessive heat warning is in effect in the Las Vegas Valley and surrounding area between Tuesday morning and Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
Temperatures will be 8 to 10 degrees higher than the seasonal average, and the hottest part if the day usually runs towards the end of the afternoon, by the time students leave school.
