They found that the amount of DMGV, a biomarker linked to an increased risk of diabetes and fatty liver disease, fell by 18%. Likewise, glutamate, associated with heart disease, diabetes and a shorter life expectancy, has been reduced by 29%. “We are starting to better understand the molecular underpinnings of how exercise affects the body and to use that knowledge to understand the metabolic architecture around patterns of exercise response,” says lead co-author Ravi Shah, MD, at Harvard Gazette. “This approach has the potential to target people with high blood pressure or many other metabolic risk factors in response to exercise, and put them on a healthier trajectory early in life.
