ESCANABA – The Bonifas Arts Center has invited artists and professionals to do a series of interviews on mental health as part of its current exhibition, “Journey through mental health”.

The first conference will take place on Monday, October 4 from noon to 2 p.m. and will be a training presentation by Veterans Affairs. The VA SAVE training program teaches how to act with caution and compassion when meeting a veteran who is in a crisis of suicidal thoughts. Many of the methods that will be discussed can be applied to anyone in crisis, whether or not they are a veteran.

The VA will also bring a paper crane project – made by and for veterans – to add to the “Journey through mental health” exposure.

Other planned interviews will be with the artists, Kate Oman and Bri Bélanger, who will give their personal testimony on their journeys through mental health. The conferences are free to access.

For more information on these conferences and other events taking place in Bonifas, find the Bonifas Arts Center on Facebook.
