ALPENA – People who knew Alpena’s Brynn Bills best use words like caring, outgoing, funny, and intelligent to describe her.

Bills’ father, Duane Bills, said that when he reflected on his daughter he thought of her curiosity, her love for the natural resources of the Alpena region, as well as her love and compassion for others.

“She was so spontaneous and outgoing and just loved to have fun,” Duane Bills, of Fairview, said Tuesday. “She loved spending time with her friends, playing volleyball, loved being outdoors and was a free spirit who cared deeply for others.”

Acting on a tip, police last week discovered Brynn Bills’ body buried behind a house in Alpena Township. She had been missing since early August.

The cause and circumstances of his death are still under investigation. Police arrested the owner, Joshua Wirgau, and another man, Brad Srebnik, on charges unrelated to his death. Police consider Wirgau to be a person of interest in their investigation, but have no suspects.

Police said on Tuesday that another woman, Abby HIll – who is linked to Wirgau and Srebnik and apparently knew Brynn Bills – was missing and may be in danger. Hill is also wanted for the same alleged incident which led to charges against the two men.

Brynn Bills would have turned 18 on August 12.

Her relatives said she had a zest for life.

Duane Bills said as her daughter progressed through school, she leaned into becoming a nurse after high school so that she could help those who needed it most.

Brynn Bills’ mother Cenia Banks described her daughter as bubbly, caring and witty. She said Brynn Bills had a great sense of humor and was very smart.

Banks said Brynn Bills was on the honor roll in elementary and middle school, but admitted his grades dropped in high school.

“She was so smart,” Banks said. “Her teachers and principals have always described her as intelligent and brilliant. She was also a lot of fun. She was the life of the party and loved to play pranks.

Banks said her daughter enjoys music of all types, especially rock and heavy metal, as well as country and rap. She said Brynn Bills also loved the theater and had participated in several plays at school.

Many of Brynn Bills’ friends and family have changed their profile photos on social media to photos of Brynn Bills as a tribute to her and the relationship she had with them. Thousands of people joined a Facebook group called Justice for Brynn and posted memories, photos, condolences and updates on the police investigation.
