The family of a Covid-19 patient who was removed from Letterkenny University Hospital criticized those who removed him from the care of expert medical staff.
Joe McCarron was pulled out of the hospital against medical advice last Tuesday by people who claimed he was forced into the intensive care unit.
However, he was rushed back to hospital Thursday morning by ambulance where doctors are now fighting to keep him alive.
A spokesperson for Mr McCarron’s family has now apologized to hospital staff.
The spokesperson revealed that Mr McCarron, of Dungloe, is now on a ventilator and showing good signs of a possible recovery.
They also criticized the actions of those who encouraged Joe to leave the hospital.
The family spokesperson said, “Una (Joe’s wife) asked me to give you all an update on Joe.
“He is still in intensive care under the care and attention of the excellent staff at Letterkenny University Hospital.
“Joe is still in critical but stable condition. He has severe lung damage from Covid 19 and is on a ventilator, but the signs are good.
“Una would like to thank the staff and apologize for the actions of Joe’s so-called reckless friends earlier in the week.
“They didn’t help Joe’s recovery in any way. We encourage everyone to follow appropriate medical advice. “
The spokesperson said Una also wanted to thank everyone for their prayers and messages of support at this time.
Mr McCarron’s withdrawal from the hospital was filmed and broadcast on social media and has gone viral across the country and around the world.
It was carried out by people acting on behalf of the patient and claiming to act under common law.
In the video, Mr McCarron is seen being taken from the hospital amid claims he was forced into the intensive care unit by hospital staff.
The doctors beg Joe to stay in the hospital reassuring him that he is in a better place and begging him to allow them to help him.
However, those who take him to the hospital say they “save” him and that it is better for him to die at home than in the hospital.
The man, believed to be an Italian immigrant, is heard saying “We are saving lives and we are going to save more”.
“We came to Letterkenny to save my friend because they were trying to kill him.
“We are walking home from the hospital and no one will stop us. We’re going home. We save people’s lives. “
Man claims that he operates under common or natural law.
The man claims they are going to get more people out of the hospital, claiming they are “killing people without their consent.”
Mr McCarron, who was accompanied by his wife, is heard explaining to doctors how he was feeling better on Wednesday morning, but was told he had to enter the intensive care unit.
However, hospital staff can be heard explaining how the Covid virus strikes with peaks and valleys.
An unidentified doctor pleads with Mr. McCarron to remain in hospital care.
The man, seen as a consultant at the hospital, tells the patient that what is happening is wrong.
“It puts your life in danger. You have the right to decide what you want to do.
“I don’t think what he’s saying is right. You are barely able to breathe there now. We want you to stay and help you, ”says the consultant.
However, the man trying to get the patient out of the hospital interrupts and says, “If you stay here, they’re going to screw you up.”
The consultant tries again to plead with Mr. McCarron saying, “I want to help you and I want you to stay. I think he is saying something very dangerous. What he is saying is very wrong and very dangerous and I think he is putting your life in danger.
“It’s a very difficult decision you have. I’m not lying to you that you might die, but your best chance is to be in the hospital and get oxygen and receive the support we give you. “
The man accompanying Mr McCarron then claims that hospital staff are lying to him and says this is his last chance to get home.
The consultant then begs Mr. McCarron’s wife to stay in the hospital.
The patient said he was told he was improving but needed to go to intensive care and said: “There are mixed messages everywhere …”
Security at the hospital was tightened after Gardai confirmed Donegal Daily they have been called TWICE into the facility in recent days following incidents involving anti-vaccine protesters.
Gardai confirmed they were called in on two incidents following reports of unrest at the medical facility.
There are also fears that hospital staff will be harassed and mistreated by protesters within the hospital grounds, including in parking lots.
A spokesperson for the Garda press office has confirmed the hospital TWICE in recent days due to the situation.
“An Garda Síochána responded to a report of unrest at Letterkenny University Hospital on September 14, 2021. However, upon arrival, those involved were no longer present.
“The investigations are ongoing. An Garda Síochána has no role in the application of public health directives
“An Garda Síochána was called to Letterkenny University Hospital shortly after 3 p.m. on September 16, 2021 in response to a disturbance involving a male visitor to the hospital. However, upon arrival, the individual had left from of his own free will.

Hospital staff complained of being harassed and insulted by anti-vaccine drugs entering and leaving the hospital.
It is understood that some staff have contacted the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organization (INMO) about the incidents.
The Saolta Hospital Group, which oversees the operation of Letterkenny University Hospital and other hospitals across the country, declined to comment on allegations that staff are being harassed.
However, a spokesperson for Saolta said earlier this week that he was aware of two incidents in which groups spread disinformation on his hospital websites.
The spokesperson said that “Saolta has serious concerns about the impact of this type of activity on patients and staff.
“Patient safety and care are of paramount importance to the group. Hospitals in the region are under extreme pressure due to record levels of Covid and non-Covid patient attendance.
“The deliberate dissemination of disinformation and sometimes defamatory comments against named staff members, as well as the posting of these videos on social media platforms, add significantly to the burden already facing healthcare professionals. “
