Disgaea 6: Challenge of Fate, the sixth entry in Nippon Ichi’s turn-based tactical RPG series, is set to arrive in the West in the summer of 2021 (as a Switch exclusive to that territory, no less). However, lucky Japanese players will get their hands on it in just a week when it launches on Switch and PS4 on January 28.
With the Japanese release date so close, outlets naturally played the game ahead of launch, and Weekly Famitsu’s score leaked right before the magazine was released. Dood, butterflies!
Ready for this? Disgaea 6 got a respectable score of 33/40 according to the magazine’s bespoke review format – that’s a nine and three eights out of the four reviews that rated the game. Critics’ impressions have been summed up as follows (thanks, Dual Shockers):
– 30 hours to erase the main story. 200 hours at 100% play
– New functions like autoplay and turbos are extremely useful for the post-game
– You can grind EXP and objects without doing anything thanks to autoplay
– The game is perfect for newcomers and diehard fans
While we might have to wait a while for an English version to arrive, publisher NIS America has been kind enough to release a new character trailer that features the main cast and gives a good feel for the trademark humor of the series and the fabulous over-the-. top-ness if you’re new to the way Disgaea does things – watch the full trailer at the top of the page.
There is also a demo available for Japanese Switch owners right now with deferred backups for the full version. Hopefully, we’ll also get a chance to sample the game ahead of its release in the West (and anyone with a Japanese Nintendo Account can download and enjoy the trial version right now, of course – although you won’t. far without at least a rudimentary command of Japanese).
Are you looking forward to Disgaea 6 this summer? Did you enjoy the appeal (of dood-y) in this new trailer? Let us know below, doods.
