CLEVELAND, Ohio – LeBron James has not talked much about basketball since the end of the Los Angeles Lakers season. Yet the drama surrounding his status within the team continues to grow.
The latest rumors point to the possibility that the Lakers negotiate James after the team failed to reach an agreement with Tyronn Lue to be the head coach. Heck, Forbes thinks James should demand an exchange.
This led people to suggest something that would have seemed outrageous at the start of the 2018-2019 season. Fans on social media have suggested that the New York Knicks or Cleveland Cavaliers win the first pick in the NBA Draft and then trade them to the Lakers against James.
The Cavs and Knicks, as well as the Phoenix Suns, have the best chance of winning the first pick at the NBA Lottery on May 14. That would mean swapping the rights of Zion Williamson, the most promising prospect in the NBA since James.
If the Cavs get the No. 1 pick, Dan Gilbert could break out of LeBron and swap Sion against him. He would be stuck here for another three seasons or would retire.

This is a crazy prediction, but what would happen if the Lakers traded LeBron in New York against Zion and then Kyrie in New York?

I do not see it yet, but I have to think that if the Lakers were to trade LeBron, they would probably target a Zion / Simmons / Luka coin in return, as opposed to another star that does not fit the timeline or a bunch of smaller assets.

the #Lakers should swap Lebron James for who gets the first pick, then write Zion Williamson's draft.

Swap for the first choice in the low key project. Zion looks like a unique player. The Lakers will have a young and solid core for years to come and you can probably have another decent player in this craft. Lebron my boy so I want him out in LA.

Only a diot would exchange Lebron against Sion

I would exchange it to anyone against Zion

This raises innumerable problems, including the value of the contract, the age and the idea of James' return to Cleveland. But policymakers seem to think that it is, at least, a possibility.
The online sports betting site Bovada has recently released the odds on which the James team will play early in the 2019-2020 season. The Lakers are the obvious choice at -600. Still, the Cavs are in the +1000 group, behind both Los Angeles and Knicks teams.
