Fans will need tickets to see the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree

People who want to see the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree this year will need to purchase tickets first, Mayor Bill de Blasio said on Sunday.

“The idea is that we are really going to limit the number of people by using a ticketing approach,” the mayor said.

He said more details on the change to Manhattan’s famous annual tradition will be made public this week.

But the city is already planning lane closures and other measures to space out the crowds flocking to the hugely popular event.

“Obviously, we will have a substantial presence from the NYPD and other agencies to keep people safe,” the mayor said.

“If you get a ticket, great, go see it,” de Blasio said on a conference call with reporters. “But I’ll say it again, it’s just not like the holidays we’ve been through before.”
