Oregon nurse is put on administrative leave after posting a TikTok video avoiding basic COVID-19 measures.
The post deleted from user @ Loveiskind05 showed the nurse wearing scrubs and a stethoscope, with the caption: “When my coworkers hear that I am still traveling, don’t wear a mask when I’m away and let my kids play. meetings . A “duo” of the original TikTok remains online.
Users apparently identified the nurse and then alerted her employer, Salem Health.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, the hospital thanked members of the community for reaching out and announced that she had been “placed on administrative leave pending investigation.”
Salem Health has not disclosed its name.
“Yesterday, a nurse employed at Salem Health posted a video on social media which showed cavalier disregard for the severity of this pandemic and her indifference to physical distancing and masking outside of work,” wrote the hospital.
“Salem Health believes we must all do our part to protect vulnerable people and stop the rapid spread of COVID-19. This includes the obligation for staff, patients, and visitors to follow CDC and other advice on mask wearing and social distancing. The COVID pandemic is serious and requires a serious response. And at Salem Health, we take our approach to COVID very seriously. “
While many commentators applauded the hospital for disciplining the nurse, others criticized it for not firing her on the spot.
“There should be no investigation. Send her back and remove her licenses. She doesn’t deserve to be a nurse if all she wants to do is put some of the most immunosuppressed people at risk, ”one Facebook user wrote.
Another commented sarcastically: “Paid time off so she can travel more and expose patients even more when she returns.”
