A Fort Dodge tradition that has been brewing for decades will come to an end this week as Fareway ends its regular inclusion and advertising in The Messenger and Consumer Weekly.

Fareway, headquartered in Boone, recently informed the newspaper that it will no longer run its weekly specials in local newspapers.

Fareway officials said it was a corporate decision affecting publications statewide.

Terry Christensen, editor of The Messenger, said it was a disappointing move.

“It is a hard blow for our company to lose such a loyal and long-standing customer” said Christensen. “It will also be a big change for our readers who depend on the weekly ads.”

Christensen said he hopes Fareway will reconsider his decision in the future and that he and his staff look forward to maintaining their relationship with local Fareway employees and management.

The Fareway ad is scheduled for its final airing today.

Readers with comments on the decision are encouraged to call the Fort Dodge Fareway store at 515-576-0341 or head office at 515-432-2623.
