IVanka Trump’s time in the White House has been horrible for America. But hey, at least it’s been awesome for her Instagram feed.
And right now, that may be the only thing that matters to Ivanka. She now has a reel of highlights for every possible shot (for a high position? Something), a brilliant assortment of action shots from the world stage – posing at Buckingham Palace, climbing the Heartland, and gesturing, Hillary-style, about the campaign in Georgia.
Her father’s administration crippled the country to the point of a violent insurgency attempt, but you know, Ivanka is happy.
As Joe Biden’s inauguration looms, the reputation of the first daughter continues to crumble. Never mind the failed and horribly violent Capitol coup, which would normally be a big fatal blow to the image of any influencer. The Washington Post reported that the Kushners did not allow Secret Service to use the restroom at their Kalorama mansion, an anecdote that tells you everything you need to know about this macabre couple.
Call it classic rich kids’ brattiness or some more complicated kind of illusion, but for Ivanka the future is still bright, or it’s in her determination to keep going anyway. NBC News reports that she may not be going to Biden’s swearing-in ceremony – if she was ever invited at all.
But she was spotted in New York this week having her hair done, as usual. She was surrounded by her security staff – at least, one assumes, they were able to use the living room toilet.
Maybe somewhere a chic, overpaid consultant is in full swing in a slideshow detailing Ivanka’s potential comeback. The slides would be pink and the text would be in a gold Pinterest font, in the good old days of Ivanka as a shoe designer who largely ripped off styles created by other people. Will anyone take this meeting?
That seems unlikely, given that New York City just broke all contracts with the Trump Organization, cutting off around $ 17 million in revenue. Prominent New York art dealers who were once close to Jarvanka, such as the couple’s spokesperson, have vowed never to work with them again. At least publicly.
We must not doubt Ivanka’s talent for reinvention; as a father, as a daughter, this woman knows the brand. As the New York Times noted shortly after Ivanka joined the Trump administration, in 2013, the Kushners set out to create a new, softer, more marketable identity.
“[Ivanka] and her husband gathered with a few employees in front of a whiteboard in their Upper East Side apartment. Times wrote. “Sheryl Sandberg’s Bend over had just hit the bestseller charts, and Ms. Trump’s team wanted their own catchy but accessible slogan. Brainstorming solidified a new motto: “Working women”. “
To say nothing of the fact that it took an entire team of people to come up with this silly slogan, the anecdote proves where Ivanka’s priorities lie. Instead of morals, she has messages. She went from sexy socialite to blogger mom because she knew the look would sell.
And when the time came to rule America, it became full of MAGA. There was once the belief that Ivanka, who only changed her voter registration from Democrat to Republican in 2018 – just in time for the midterm elections – would push a liberal agenda on her father.
As the naivety went: she was from New York. She knew homosexuals, she knew working mothers, after all she was. She must surely understand the urgency of the climate crisis. Leonardo DiCaprio even met her to discuss it.
But then Trump began to systematically cancel protections for LGBTQ people; he banned transgender people from serving in the military. His administration separated some 628 migrant children from their parents. He withdrew from the Paris Agreement.
Still, there was Ivanka, in a power costume and a megawatt smile, redirecting our attention to her supposed accomplishments. There was the Global Initiative for Women’s Development and Prosperity, the favorite project she never shied away from.
She claimed to empower women entrepreneurs, but was unaware of the social blockages put in place by the administration of her father, which continuously tried to deprive women of their right to contraception both in this country and abroad.
In short, she scratched. It was a page from her father’s playbook, except it looked good doing it. Well, except for all those times she was standing hollow and ghostly, like the time she posed for photos at Buckingham Palace, robotic looked nasty on her state visit.
Many people have made passionate and compelling cases of how Ivanka’s hometown essentially disowned her. She is not welcome in New York, according to popular theory. Ivanka is also a main subject in two separate and ongoing state-led fraud investigations – not quite a tape return.
But let’s go back to February 2015, the winter before Trump sadly announced his candidacy via that sticky golden escalator ride. Vogue posted a flattering profile of Ivanka, wrapped in Erdem tweed as she pampered her baby. “Ivanka Trump knows what it means to be a modern millennial,” reads the headline, apparently written in earnest.
“The disheartening truth of New York City: You can always have lunch again in this city.“
– New York Times
Of course, Vogue has since doomed their old cool-corporate style flagship. In the summer of 2017, the glossy paper said, “Look, it’s time to collectively and officially give up Ivanka Trump.” But as Ginia Bellafante reported for The New York Times in November, a rep for the magazine declined to comment on a fairly straightforward question: “Mrs. Trump [ever] to be invited to the Met Gala in the future?
As the article’s caption read, “The Disheartening Truth of New York: You Can Always Have Lunch In This City Again.”
But as the Upper East Side holds its breath, another zip code gears up for a fight. Although the two have just purchased a $ 40 million Billionaire’s Bunker in an island community in Florida, and will count Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen as neighbors, Page six reports that the accompanying Indian Creek Country Club does not want them to join.
“Indian Creek Country Club members are very picky and the word is Javanka doesn’t need to apply,” a source told the tabloid. (The club has been criticized for denying Jews and people of color in the past.)
Who knows which tested personality Ivanka will adopt next? His Instagram is now an avalanche of pro-Trump posts; at this point, she seems ready to take the most MAGA route imaginable. Wherever she goes, she will walk with this mysterious confidence on display for the past four years. Ivanka’s future looks bright – if you ask Ivanka.
