BLUE EARTH – While no action was planned on a road link bill at the Faribault County Board of Directors meeting on Tuesday, Public Works Director Mark Daly was told by the commissioners that they wanted to stay the course.
“I don’t think there is any doubt that this (bail bill) will pass,” said Commissioner Greg Young. “I think we should keep moving forward.
With that in mind, the commissioners voted to ask County Auditor / Treasurer Darren Esser to contact the surety company the county uses and start firming up the numbers.
“We will still have to vote on whether to pursue the bail bill”, The youngster commented. “But, this way, we keep moving forward.”
Daly also informed the commissioners that he had received an invoice from the drainage service for $ 495,557.
“Darren warned me that an invoice was coming” Daly noted. “I knew it covered expenses that hadn’t been billed earlier, but I hadn’t budgeted such a large amount.”
Esser explained that most of the invoices included in the invoice should have been sent before he took office.
“We are trying to make things current”, He shared.
Commissioners accepted Daly’s suggestion to use $ 234,031 from the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplementary Appropriations Act (CRRSAA) to foot part of the bill. They also asked Esser and Daly to meet and work out a payment plan for the remaining balance.
“In the future, it seems likely that I will have to budget between $ 50,000 and $ 75,000 each year to cover drainage expenses.” commented Daly.
In other cases:
– The Commissioners passed a motion to transfer a 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer from the Sheriff’s Department to the Faribault County Appraisal Office at a cost of $ 2,000.
– A motion was passed approving a $ 27,000 increase in the 2021 budget for the purchase of 21 Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). Five are needed for the courthouse, agricultural center, and public works department, while the other 16 are needed for the sheriff’s department / jail.
– Approved the hiring of Emily Bonin as a Social Assistance Fraud Investigator.
