BRISTOL, Virginia (Gray News) – A father of seven in Virginia has delayed getting the COVID-19 vaccine and now regrets his decision as he battles the deadly virus. He calls on everyone to get vaccinated.

Travis Campbell, 43, has been sharing videos on Facebook documenting his battle with COVID-19 at a Bristol, Virginia hospital since the end of July, when his whole family caught the virus.

Although the rest of the family at home improved, Travis Campbell deteriorated, ending up in the intensive care unit with doctors fearing he would need to be put on a ventilator.

In many videos, he has difficulty speaking and breathing.

” I can not breathe. I try, but I feel like a fish out of water. I have a fever, a partial collapsed lung, and I’m just struggling with all the ailments – dehydration. It’s very, very difficult, ”Travis Campbell said in an interview with CNN.

In a video released Wednesday, Travis Campbell detailed what were his darkest moments in his battle with COVID-19 when he spoke of calling friends to ask them to be his carriers and his 14-year-old son for ask him if he would give his older sister in her place at her future marriage.

“It was heartbreaking. You never want to hear your dad talk about not being there for those big moments in your life, ”Travis’s 19-year-old daughter Madison Campbell said in an interview with CNN.

As he continues to fight the virus, Travis Campbell encouraged anyone who had not yet been vaccinated to do so. He says he regrets not getting the vaccine himself.

“I pray that people really stop and assess. How valuable are your decisions to your life? There are more unvaccinated people than vaccinated… I pray that all other single mothers and fathers, single fathers, single grandparents assess your situation. Get vaccinated for others, ”he told CNN.

Travis Campbell told the Bristol Herald Courier he knew at least 20 people who were vaccinated after hearing his story.

His daughter says she’s proud of him.

“I think he goes on Facebook, does these videos, it makes a difference, it saves lives, and I couldn’t love him more,” said Madison Campbell.

The Campbell family say they weren’t vaccinated before because they believed they had mild cases of COVID-19 last year and assumed these antibodies would prevent future infection.
