Coronavirus cases, which are currently increasing across the country, are expected to remain high or continue to rise through December, January and February, according to the doctor and immunologist.

“If the outbreak continues to increase and you have over 100,000 infections per day and 1,300 deaths per day and the tally keeps increasing … I don’t see it being any different during the Christmas and New Years only during Thanksgiving, ”Fauci said.

The infectious disease expert implored Americans to show loved ones that they care by “protecting them” and avoiding family gatherings.

“To my own family I say we had a really good Thanksgiving and Christmas last year. We look forward to a really good Thanksgiving and Christmas in 2021. Now let’s make the most of the situation and show our love and our affection for people by protecting them, ”he said.

Fauci’s warning comes as the United States sets another coronavirus record on Thursday, as the number of current COVID-19-related hospitalizations has exceeded 90,000 for the first time since the start of the pandemic.
