“We are in a very, very difficult situation on every level,” Fauci said on CBS’s “Face the Nation”, citing an increase in infections across much of the country. Fauci, highlighting the development of two separate candidate vaccines, urged Americans not to give up hope even if they continue to take precautions.

“You don’t want people to be terrified, but you want them to understand that we can do something about it through mitigation methods and that help is also being done, so we don’t have to consider this as a desperate situation, ”he said.

Fauci a averti que pour qu’un vaccin atteigne l’immunité collective, il dépendait d’une combinaison de l’efficacité du vaccin et du nombre de personnes qui le prennent.

«Si vous avez un vaccin très efficace et que seulement 40 à 50 pour cent de la population se font vacciner, vous n’obtiendrez pas l’immunité collective dont vous avez besoin», a-t-il ajouté.
