Fayette and Lexington schools open more testing clinics

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Schools in Fayette County have joined the community-wide effort to encourage both COVID testing and more vaccinations.

This includes more clinics. In a note to families, the district said:

Dear FCPS families:

Fayette County Public Schools have robust health and safety protocols in place designed to minimize the potential spread of COVID-19 so that our students experience the benefits of in-person learning. One of our multi-layered prevention strategies is a well-articulated contact tracing, isolation and quarantine procedure. With the current acceleration of COVID-19 cases in the large Fayette County community, an increasing number of FCPS students have been placed in quarantine due to potential exposures both on and off campus .

As we have done throughout the pandemic, members of the district’s COVID-19 core team are constantly reviewing the ever-changing information from health experts and looking for promising practices being used by other school systems. Across the country. Over the past few weeks, we’ve been discussing ways in which regular COVID-19 testing on our campuses could help us reduce the time students have to miss school due to quarantines. We are still looking for possible strategies and hope we can implement a system in the near future. However, at this time, it would be premature for us to share any additional information as no plan has been finalized yet.

We are, however, delighted to announce that starting today, our healthcare partners will be offering voluntary and FREE COVID-19 testing to all interested FCPS students and employees at many of our campuses, district facilities and community locations. Individuals can go to any testing site, regardless of where they work or attend school.

Starting this week, Gravity Diagnostics will provide free COVID-19 testing to all interested FCPS students, staff and faculty. No appointment is necessary and driving tests will be available at the following sites. Click here for more information.

  • Frederick Douglass High School, 2000 Winchester Road, 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
  • Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, 1600 Man o ‘War Boulevard, 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Tuesday.
  • Bryan Station High School, 201 Eastin Road, 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Wednesday.
  • Southern Middle School, 400 Wilson Downing Road, 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Wednesday.
  • LycĂ©e Lafayette, 401 Reed Lane, 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Thursday.
  • Old Central Office Building, 701 East Main Street, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday.
  • Rise STEM Academy, 2420 Spurr Road, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday.

Wild Health and the Lexington Fayette Urban County Government are also opening the following walk-in clinical trial sites, which will operate from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Same day appointments will be available here soon.

  • Immanuel Baptist Church, 2261 Armstrong Mill Road, from August 28, opening days: Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
  • Fayette County Public Schools, 100 Midland Ave., starting August 26, open days: 7 days a week.
  • Lexington Legends Ballpark, 2017 Legends Lane, from August 31, opening days: Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
