This September brought League, Section III, State and National fixtures back, and the Hornets began their final quest with a dominant performance in the Varsity 1 races at the Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Invitational on Friday.
On the same VVS course where they will host the section competition in early November, the FM girls finished seven of the top 10 and, with 20 points, were a long way from the finalist West Genesee (99 points) and the rest of a 14-team field. .
Hannah Kaercher won the race in 18 minutes, 41.3 seconds, just ahead of 18: 43.4 of teammate Izzie Sullivan while Amelia Amack was fourth in 19: 41.9.
Isabelle Adrian made her way to seventh in 20: 33.8, with Debbie Lucchetti eighth in 20: 34.6 while Maria Khalifeh took 10e place in 21: 45.3. Catherine Walters was 16e in 22: 37.9.
As for the FM boys, they also moved away from the field at VVS, their top six riders in a single pack en route to 25 points as Baldwinsville finished second with 68 points.
Individually, Anthony Otis led the Hornets, with a time of 17: 11.5 third behind Peter McMahon of West Genesee (16: 40.7) and Solomon Holden-Betts of B’ville (17: 01.5).
