FDA Explains Why Ivermectin Not Approved For Treatment Of COVID-19 Symptoms

The United States Food and Drug Administration has not approved the use of ivermectin to treat symptoms of COVID-19.

In a press release, the FDA said it had “carefully evaluated” the scientific data on the drug, normally found in pill and topical form used to treat parasitic worms and lice in humans and animals.

The organization stressed that taking larger doses of the drug “is not acceptable”. They also concluded that humans cannot take the same ivermectin drug specially designed for animals, and vice versa.

“Animal drugs are often very concentrated because they are used for large animals like horses and cows,” the organization said. “The FDA reviews drugs not only for their safety or effectiveness, but also for their inactive ingredients. We don’t know how these inactive ingredients will affect the way Ivermectin is absorbed in the human body.

The FDA is strongly urging people to talk to their health care provider about effective ways to treat COVID-19, including getting the COVID-19 vaccine.
