FDA moved too fast to allow coronavirus antibody testing, two senior officials admit

A Colorado ski resort has experienced a Covid-19 outbreak, with more than 100 active infections among its employees.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment announced the outbreak at Winter Park Resort in January, but released the data in its weekly summary of the outbreak on Wednesday.

There is at least 109 employees with active infections, they said.

As the ski season is in full swing in Colorado, other resorts have also reported cases of Covid-19. But the epidemic in Winter Park is currently the largest, according to data from CDPHE.

“We have been working closely with public health authorities since the start of the pandemic,” said Jen Miller, communications manager at the ski resort. “We did extensive planning and had to get state approval on our operations before we could open on Dec. 3.”

Cases related to socialization and life situations: Most of the cases have been attributed to social gatherings outside of work and collective housing, Miller said.

The precautions, according to Miller, include: reconfiguration of elevator corrals and elevator loading procedures, additional staff, new signage reminding visitors of mask requirements, catering limitations, a reservation system to manage visits and the number of people in the complex, contactless accommodation and a state-approved test site for its 1,700 active employees.

But some visitors have reported that mask warrants are not being enforced.

Asked about these reports, Miller said, “We have done a tremendous amount of work and continue to evolve our operations as necessary. I can’t speak from a person’s experience, but we value feedback and will continue to make changes as the well-being of our employees, guests and community is our top priority. “

Conor Cahill, press secretary to Colorado Governor Jared Polis, said ski resorts statewide need to “better plan and manage peak weekends.”
