Fed Officials Consider Thresholds for Rate Reductions

Federal Reserve officials are starting to talk about the conditions under which they would lower interest rates, including a scenario in which inflation would fall, even if economic growth did not weaken.

Such a scenario is not considered particularly likely and a rate reduction is not imminent or envisaged for their meeting from April 30 to May 1. But the thresholds for such action have been the subject of conversations in recent interviews and public statements.
