CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – A day after the state closed TestIowa sites for the Thanksgiving holiday, there were fewer reported cases of COVID-19 in Iowa.
As of 10:30 a.m. as of Thursday, 1,266 more cases of the coronavirus have been reported in the state of Iowa. This brings the total number of people with the virus to 223,544 since the start of the pandemic.
The number of people reported in a 24-hour period who died from the virus remained high. The state reported 37 new cases of death, bringing the total to 2,349. This follows two more than 40 days of death, including 47 on Wednesday and 41 on Thursday.
The number of people hospitalized due to COVID-19 has remained on a downward trend. There are 1,226 people seeking treatment at 10:30 am, with 183 people newly admitted in the past 24 hours. Of those in hospital, 256 are in intensive care and 141 are on ventilators. The number of people hospitalized has declined since our peak on November 18, when we saw 1,527 people in need of treatment.
According to data the state makes available, the positivity rate in the past 24 hours was 39%, after the state reported 3,242 new tests, for a total of 1,197,773.
