There were only 14 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Warren County over the weekend.
The total number of cases is 3,118, or just under 8% of the population.
Of these, 2,423 are confirmed and 695 probable.
The death toll remains at 112 for the county.
Warren County, like all other counties in the state, has a high transmission rate, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
More than 500 tests have been done in the past seven days in the county and many of them are positive.
According to the CDC, the county’s positivity rate is 24.86 (or about 105 positives out of 523 tests). This rate is down about 14% from the previous seven days.
According to the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, “The percentage of positives is a critical metric because it gives us an indication of the extent of infection in the area where testing is taking place – and whether test levels are tracking levels of disease transmission. “
“A high percentage of positives means that more testing should probably be done – and this suggests that now is not the right time to relax restrictions aimed at reducing the transmission of coronaviruses,” according to Johns Hopkins. “Because a high percentage of positive tests suggests high coronavirus infection rates (due to high transmission in the community), a high percentage of positives may indicate that perhaps now is the time to add restrictions to slow the spread of the disease. The higher the percentage of positive, the more worrying it is. Typically, however, a threshold for the percentage of positives being “too high” is 5%. For example, the World Health Organization recommended in May that the percentage of positives stay below 5% for at least two weeks before governments consider reopening. “
Over the weekend, the Chautauqua County Health Department in New York City reported that since Thursday there had been 185 more cases of COVID-19 and four more deaths attributed to the virus in the county.
Hospitalizations in Chautauqua County held steady from Friday to Sunday at 34 with a total number of cases of 11,262 including 466 active. There are currently 1,170 in quarantine with 10,623 recoveries and 173 deaths in total. The positivity rate is 9.1% and the level of community transmission of CDC remains high.
Of the latest reported cases, 80 were in Jamestown, 29 in Fredonia, 11 in Dunkirk, seven in Silver Creek and six in Forestville.
The positivity rate in western New York was reported at 4.75 percent. New York State’s highest regional rate was 5.85% and the lowest 2.07%.
On Monday, the department provided updated vaccination numbers.
In Warren, as of Thursday, 98 county residents have been added to the number who have been fully vaccinated and 14 have been added to the partial list.
As of Monday, those totals stood at 14,926 fully vaccinated and 2,403 partially vaccinated, according to the department.
