HBO confirmed that the first two episodes of the eighth and final season of "Game of Thrones" will be slightly shorter than the others.

According to rumors, the last six episodes of the megahit show each lasted 90 minutes, but it is now clear that only the last four episodes will be longer than the usual duration of the show. The cable operator also revealed the start dates for each of the last episodes, the first of which was on April 14th.

Earlier this month, HBO released a dramatic trailer for the last season, in which fans had a glimpse of epic battles and the upcoming drama.

Former HBO chief Richard Plepler, who stepped down in February after the fallout from the merger between AT & T-Time Warner, said Variety that the episodes are closer to "six movies" than the television episodes, and that moviegoers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss had exceeded expectations with the final product.

"They knew the bar was high. They have gone beyond the bar, "said Plepler. I watched them twice without any CGI and I'm impressed. Everyone is expecting an extraordinary treat of stories and magical production. "
