A fire that swept through celebrity chef Rachael Ray’s upstate mansion accidentally started in a chimney, state fire officials have said.
The Office of Fire Prevention and Control released the cause of the Aug. 9 fire in Lake Lucerne on Friday, The Associated Press reported.
The flames severely damaged the roof and second floor of Ray’s home, which is in a remote area about 50 miles north of Albany. The first floor suffered water damage, but the ultramodern kitchen was spared.
Firefighters from more than a dozen departments had to use water from the pond to extinguish the blaze as there are no fire hydrants nearby.
Ray had recorded his talk show from his home since April because of the coronavirus. Her husband, John Cusimano, had acted as a cameraman and producer.
