A fireball was seen in the skies over New Jersey and several other northeastern states on Sunday evening.

The fireball traveled east to west with its visible flight ending somewhere near Poughkeepsie, New York shortly after 7.20 p.m., according to the American Meteorological Society.

There have been over 210 reports of the fireball received from New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Delaware, Maryland, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia and from Quebec, Canada, AMS said.

A meteorologist from the National Weather Service described the fireball as “flying bright and low”.

Fireballs cross the sky hundreds of times a day, but most occur over oceans or unpopulated areas or are obscured by daylight, according to the AMS.
