First recap of "Dancing With the Stars": Who skyrocketed week 1? Who stumbled?

[ad_1]

After taking a break from one year, Dance with the stars has finally reopened Monday in the ballroom, welcoming 12 new candidates who want to sneak into the heart of America.

Remember, season 28 was already dramatic, even before the slightest second of the show: First, the cast of former White House press secretary, Sean Spicer, provoked a negative reaction from social media even from DWTS co-host Tom Bergeron. (For his part, Spicer expressed the hope that the ballroom would be a "zone without politics", which, of course!)

Just hours before the premiere on Monday, Christie Brinkley had to give up after an injury and her daughter Sailor Brinkley-Cook took her place for the season. All this, and Len Goodman had not criticized anyone yet.

But the two-hour broadcast delivered their own twists, including the revelation of the celebrity / professional pair this season and a glimpse of those "format changes" that ABC Entertainment's president, Karey Burke, had previously teased. . (Well, sort of, Bergeron has hinted that the judges will have a say in the eliminations this season … but he will not give more details before next Monday show. Coarse.)

SHOW CAPTION

Let's go back to how each of the duets behaved in Night 1:

* Hannah Brown and pro Alan Bersten (Cha-Cha) – Hannah is actually my choice to win everything. I was delighted to see her deliver a strong performance on Monday. She was sometimes a little wobbly and her nerves from Night 1 pushed her a tiny a little ahead of the music – but it has a natural grace, a presence on stage and a ton of potential. Judges' rating: 20/30

* Kel Mitchell and pro Witney Carson (Tango) – Anyone who is familiar with Kel's comedy knows he's a ball of energy … but this tango actually seemed to lose It's fun and exciting, despite a good start. Judges' rating: 16/30

* Kate Flannery and new pro Pasha Pashkov (Cha-Cha) – The dance in this routine was neither extraordinary nor terrible; it was just kind of … The, You know? That said, who knew that Kate had a set of serious pipes on her? Judges' rating: 15/30

* Lamar Odom and Pro Peta Murgatroyd (Foxtrot) – Oof. It was … not great. And I think the routine may have actually suffered from having too much little not? It does not seem that Lamar is destined for Mirrorball anyway, but he has not been given much to do here, if not to lazily guide Peta from one step to another. In addition, I can not legitimately remember the last time – if ever? – that someone received a "3" from a judge. I repeat: Oof. Judges' rating: 11/30

* Lauren Alaina and Gleb Savchenko (Cha-Cha) – The judges discussed Gleb's choreography and whether this routine contained enough traditional cha-cha content. (I bet you can guess which judge was not Anyway, Lauren's movements were accurate, and she brought the right amount of sass to her performance … although I'm not convinced that "Man! I Feel Like a Woman "is a soundtrack of cha-cha. Judges' rating: 19/30

* Christie Brinkley Sailor Brinkley-Cook and pro Val Chmerkovskiy (Foxtrot) – Dude! She had only three days to learn that! And it was good! I was expecting Val to basically drag Sailor through that number, but she was coping – with the proper foxtrot setting, no less. Judges' rating: 18/30

* Karamo Brown and pro Jenna Johnson (Salsa) – Len, Bruno and Carrie Ann had problems with the Karamo action on the hip – their absence. But the Weird eye The personality still brought tons of energy, and his mastery of choreography bodes well for the rest of the season. Judges' rating: 17/30

* Ray Lewis and Cheryl Burke (Salsa) – I did not expect Ray Lewis to be so good at rolling. But here it is: Ray Lewis is good at rolling. Judges' rating: 15/30

DWTS Season 28* Mary Wilson and professional Brandon Armstrong (Foxtrot) – That could have been the soundtrack – "Baby Love" from The Supremes, which the band Mary sang for years – but it looked much more comfortable on this dance floor than I did not plan it. I'm afraid that faster routines will not bother her in the coming weeks – but for the moment, let's just focus on those fabulous high-boobs she got half way through. Judges' rating: 17/30

* Allied Brooke and pro Sasha Farber (Cha-Cha) – This issue started with an impressive solo section for Ally, who was bold and confident from the very beginning of the music. Once the real cha-cha She began however to think that she was thinking about her movements and the performance became a bit clumsy. Yet she is clearly a candidate. Judges' rating: 16/30

* Sean Spicer and Lindsay Arnold (Salsa) – I had Sean's first performance should be pretty weak. (Well, that was.) I had do not expected this fluorescent green shirt… but now I will never forget it. Judges' rating: 12/30

* James Van Der Beek and Emma Slater (Tango) – You may have a season 28 winner. James' performance was strong, sexy and well executed technically. The only disappointment? Than the previous "appearance" of the actor on Dance with the stars – via an episode of Do not trust B- in Apartment 23 – is not mentioned even though this program was broadcast on ABC. Odd! Judges' rating: 21/30
