ATHENS – Kirby Smart's early reflections on the G-Day match indicate the fourth-year head coach said it was a victory for Georgian football.
"I'm excited about the tight nature of the game and the battle that's coming out," Smart said Saturday afternoon.
"I love when two-quarters are competing and two minutes (offensives) and that guys start playing, so it was really good from a competitive point of view."
The red team – made up of the first team's offensive and the second team's defense – scored a 22-17 win in the intrasquad scramble before an announced crowd of 52,630 at Sanford Stadium.

The black team consisted of the first team defense members and the second team offensive.

It was an impressive demonstration of support given the 48 degree temperatures and intermittent rain before and during the match in Athens.
Jokingly, he did not even know if he was going to attend a match under such conditions and thank the Bulldogs fans for their support.
One of the best news of the day, Smart said, is that none of the players had sustained serious injuries.
"I could see the eyes in the guys' eyes, they were competing and they were playing hard, that was good," said Smart. "No major injuries, which is also good."

There were 115 games in the scrum consisting of 83 assists and 32 games in the playoffs.
Smart said that part of the imbalance had to do with the two-minute offense style run at the end of both halves by both teams, focused on the passes.
Third-year starting quarterback Jake Fromm made 14 of 29 attempts with a touchdown and interception, a 116-yard pass over 11 yards.
Quarterbacks Stetson Bennett and D'Wan Mathis were both impressed.
Bennett, the most experienced of both with a year at UGA and a year at the junior university to his credit, has been a combined total of 12 passes on 23 passes for 210 yards with a touchdown that divides his time between teams first and second offense.
Mathis, a first-year freshman, scored 15 of 28 passes for a 113-yard pass with an interception, but also a 39-yard pass on a reverse pass.
Brian Herrien was the total leader in yards, the eldest with seven passes for 25 yards and three assists for 50 yards and one touchdown.

D'Andre Swift unveiled his explosive open field skills with three runs for 39 yards and three catches for 17 yards.
Striker Georgia, Charlie Woerner, and receiver Trey Blount share the honors with five catches, Woerner with 44 yards and Blount with 69 yards.
J.J. Holloman, the team's first receiver, had three catches for 54 yards and one touchdown.
