Five Android apps we’re excited to see on Windows 11

Windows 11 will support Android apps, bringing millions of new apps to PCs. You will be able to grab apps through the Amazon App Store or download apps on Windows 11. Between these two methods, some of the biggest gaps in apps will be filled, which makes me excited for the future of apps on the next operating system. Microsoft’s operation.

Last November, I asked our readers what Android apps and games they would be using on their PCs. I’ve put together some of these thoughts, my own wishlist, and chatted with our editors at Windows Central and Android Central to come up with the five Android apps we’re most excited to see on Windows 11.

Amazon’s own apps

To keep this list from being mostly apps created by Amazon, I decided to combine them. Unsurprisingly, the Amazon App Store offers ComiXology, Audible, and Kindle, all made by Amazon. These will all be welcome additions to the Microsoft Store and Windows 11. Between web and legacy apps, you can now get some functionality from these services on Windows, but Android apps from the Amazon Store should provide a much better experience.

For example, you can read Kindle books using Microsoft Edge. It provides good, but not a great experience. Using Kindle Cloud Reader through Edge offers many features, including offline use, but it is not as user-friendly as a native app. Having the Kindle app designed by Amazon for the best Amazon Fire tablets should provide a better experience on Windows.

Instagram

There is already an Instagram app on Windows 11, but it does not (yet) allow you to download content. The Instagram app from the Amazon App Store supports uploading images and videos, streaming live video, and sending endangered content with Instagram Direct. Assuming all of these features are working when the app hits Windows 11, it should provide a fuller and more robust Instagram experience.

Use of the Instagram app from the Amazon App Store may not be required for downloading in the future. Facebook is rolling out support for downloading content on Windows and macOS, although only some people have the option at this time. The good news is that whether through an updated Windows app or the Android app, PC users will be able to upload content to Instagram from Windows 11.

Google apps

Just like the Amazon apps listed above, I decided to group all of Google’s apps, including YouTube and Google Maps, into one group so that I could pass the love on to other apps. The future of Google apps on Windows 11 is a bit murkier than the apps I mentioned before. While you can download apps on Windows 11, there will likely be limits for any apps that require Google Play services.

There is a good chance that people will find a way around these limitations, but nothing is guaranteed. Plus, average users won’t want to take any extra steps to get their favorite apps working.

That being said, at least some of Google’s apps should be available on Windows 11 in some format, albeit limited.

Mobile games

You may feel a tendency to collect types of applications. You will probably also see a tendency not to know the exact details of how certain apps work on Windows 11. Microsoft has not shared details about how Android apps look on their new operating system. Things like whether they’ll be able to run in full screen or how they’ll support touch controls are question marks at this point.

What we do know is that there will be millions of games available on Windows 11 that you couldn’t play on your PC before. Most of the best Android games aren’t in the Amazon App Store, so you’ll likely have to resort to sideloading. Even those who only use the Amazon store will have great options like Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga.

All that you want

It might sound like an evasion, but it’s more to point out that since you’ll be able to load Android apps on Windows 11, there will be literally millions of apps to choose from. For example, my American football team uses a service called Hudl to watch game movies. The web interface isn’t great and certainly isn’t designed to touch it. I would love to load the Hudl app on my PC to see if it works.

I doubt Hudl is that important to most of you, so I’m not going to say it’s one of the top five most popular apps. But it illustrates the value of supporting Android apps. Whether you want to grab a popular app that’s not in the store or a niche app, there should be a way to run it on Windows 11.

Fill the application gap

To me, the app gap on Windows has never been about how many of the top 25 apps are on the Microsoft Store. It has always been about trust. Are people confident that they can open the Microsoft Store and find the app they are looking for? So far I would say that has not been the case. I know a lot of people who don’t even check if the Microsoft Store has an app they want because they assume it doesn’t.

With Android apps through the Amazon App Store, support for sideloading apps, and support for more stores potentially on the way, people can build confidence that the Microsoft Store has this. they are looking for.
