A woman from Tennessee said that she had gone to a nail salon to get her manicure, but that she had left with a flesh-eating bacteria. She even claims that the infection almost made her lose her hand.

Jayne Sharp told WTVF, an affiliate of CBS, that she "was poking her thumb" earlier this year while she was getting a manicure in Knoxville, Tennessee, from Naz Bar. Sharp stated at the point of sale that she did not initially think the sting was a concern.

However, in just "a few hours," she said that her thumb had begun to "beat" and that she had started to experience flu-like symptoms. One of Sharp's daughters – a registered nurse – pleaded for her to see a doctor and she went there.

The next morning, the swelling had reached Sharp's elbow and she was taken to the emergency room, where she received terrifying news, reports WTVF. She was informed that the disease was necrotizing fasciitis a rare but deadly bacterial infection which kills the body's soft tissues, reports the local chapter of the CBS.

"The doctors told us that if I waited an hour longer, the situation might not be good," Sharp told WTVF. "I think the man in Florida was dead in 48 hours from a flesh-eating bacteria."

A man with cancer died of carnivorous bacteria 48 hours later Florida beach trip in July. The man's daughter confirmed that he had been infected with Vibrio vulnificus ", which results in necrotizing fasciitis," she said in a message posted on Facebook.

A Indiana girl aged 12 who was vacationing with his family in Florida in June has also contracted a rare bacterium that feeds on flesh. According to the affiliate of CBS WKRG-TV, the doctors found an infection between the girl's knee and diagnosed him with necrotizing fasciitis. She had been reported for the last time while recovering.

Sharp has undergone several surgeries in Knoxville and Nashville, but she said it had taken her months to feel normal. She added that her thumb was still numb and looked a little different from before. "I'm lucky to be alive," she said.

Sharp told the point of sale that she was suing the fair against the show.

Sharp and Jazzy Nail Bar have not yet sent back the request for comments from CBS News.
