Florida Adds 21,208 COVID-19 Cases Tuesday, CDC Data Shows

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida – Florida reported 21,208 new cases of COVID-19 and six other virus-related deaths on Tuesday, according to data from the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

That fits perfectly with the state’s 7-day moving average, which has passed 21,000 new cases per day over the past two weeks.

The 7-day moving average for the United States is 124,383 new cases per day, which means Florida accounts for 17%.

Florida has now verified 3,103,941 cases of COVID-19 and 42,722 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

The latest data comes from figures sent to the CDC by the Florida Department of Health. The state only publicly releases a full COVID-19 report once a week on Friday.

Last Friday’s report showed the statewide positivity rate for new cases reached 19.8%, a ninth consecutive week of increases in this measure.

Of the 150,118 new cases of COVID-19 reported from August 13 to 19, 20,331 were in children 12 and under, a worrying trend as schools resume classes.

According to the Florida Hospital Association, 16,820 people are hospitalized statewide with COVID-19 on Tuesday.
