Marquis Davis was 28 and was not vaccinated when he died after contracting coronavirus
The family of a Florida business owner who died of COVID-19 last month have used his funeral as a vaccine testing and administration site to protect people from the disease.
Marquis Davis, who died of complications from COVID-19 on July 26, was the owner of Davis Flawless Lawns registered in Cocoa, Florida.
Faith Temple Christian Center, the family church in Rockledge, Fla., Has requested that tests and injections be provided at the vigil and at the memorial to raise awareness of the coronavirus, its widow Charnese davis told ABC News. The family agreed.
“Now we see things change completely with this Delta variant. [Marquis] was 28, had the rest of his life ahead of him, and because of COVID-19, especially this delta variant, and he was not vaccinated his life was cut short, ”said Dr. R. Charnese Davis said Marquis Davis was not vaccinated when he contracted COVID-19 and that she noticed he fell ill at the end of last month. After testing positive, he was in quarantine at home when his condition worsened. He was then taken to hospital where he spent six days on an oxygen machine.
Marquis Davis swore to get the shot if he made it out, but, sadly, he didn’t.
“He was so adamant that he didn’t have it, not everything we heard about the vaccine was always perfect… There are a lot of young adults my age who don’t want to get it or they think it is. it won’t affect them, “Charnese Davis told WFTV. “But, it affects you. It could have been avoided, so let’s get vaccinated so that it doesn’t happen to you. “
The vigil for the Marquis took place on Friday and the funeral took place on Saturday. A message stated that vaccinations were to take place at every event at the Faith Temple Christian Center, where shots from Pfizer and Johnson and Johnson were provided.
Anita Stremmel, a spokeswoman for the Brevard County Health Department, said Florida today that it was the first such vaccination event in the county and praised it, despite its unorthodox execution.
